Waxing FAQs
-
Waxing is one of the best ways to temporarily remove unwanted body hair. It’s more effective than shaving because it removes hair from the root. Over time the hair in waxed areas regrows finer and sparse or not at all.
-
Hair needs to be 1/4inch long or equivalent to a grain of rice. If it’s too short the hair will be difficult to remove. More pain tends to be associated with longer hair growth. If you regularly shave please allow 7- 10 days between shaving and waxing to ensure all hair is able to be removed at your appointment.
-
Appointments are usually scheduled every 4 weeks. If this is your first waxing experience you can reasonably expect your results to last between 3 and 6 weeks with minimal growth in the days and weeks following your appointment, depending on how quickly your particular hair grows. Hair regrowth patterns are cyclical and you will notice an improvement in regard to the longevity of your results as you become regular with your waxing services.

It is at Urban Waxologist! There is never any double-dipping of our waxing implements, and therefore, no risk of cross-contamination.

The most effective way of calming down red skin is by moisturizing. Waxing removes the top layer of the epidermis revealing new, softer skin but simultaneously it strips away the skin’s natural oil and moisture. To restore the moisture and rejuvenate the skin, it is worth checking out some of these products that we recommend to compliment your waxing experience.
-
If you become a regular waxer you’ll notice that your hair will become sparser, making it easier to wax and less painful
-
It depends on how fast your hair is growing but on average we would recommend getting waxed every 4 weeks. This is usually the right amount of time to have the hair at the right length, and will also allow the skin to be less sensitive to treatments
-
Seeing us actually covers 80% of this! It’s understandable that there will be a little embarrassment, especially for a first-timer as you may feel slightly uncomfortable being so exposed. Rest assured, our waxologist have seen it all and, like a doctor or nurse, it’s their job. Just know were always profesional and it’s of the norm and our waxologist won’t even bat an eyelid.
-
Taking painkillers can actually make the treatment less painful. Taking ibuprofen, in particular, can aid in reducing any swelling that comes about after the wax. Exfoliating 48 hrs before you wax helps as well.
-
Resist the urge to pick up the razor! We strongly advise not shaving after having a wax done. Shaving promotes ingrown hairs and skin abrasions hence it counteracts all of the wonders that the wax does for your skin. Plus, shaving makes your skin more sensitive, which will only make your next wax more painful.

Yes most certainly, just let your Waxologist know so that she is aware.

We use different types of wax for different services. Most waxing services require the use of hard wax, which hardens on the skin and is then removed. Hard wax is perfect for use on people who have sensitive skin as the wax encapsulates each individual hair and does not attach to the skin.
For some services provided a strip wax, or soft wax, is best to use. Strip wax is applied to the skin and a small piece of paper is pressed over the top and is removed in that fashion. All of the waxes used are of the highest quality and the results are superior because of this
